Control Voltage Transformer Uses

Control Voltage Transformers are simply another name for Control Power Transformers. They can also be referred to as Industrial Control Transformers and Control Panel Transformers. They are by nature a form of isolation transformer. However, where a normal isolation transformer does not change the voltage, the Control Voltage Transformer will. The main attribute highly prized is the ability to lower voltage to parameters consistent with what a variety of devices can safely use while also protecting them from affects of the higher voltage supply. In this instance the name is specifically referring to the secondary winding that is the control power side of the transformer.

Great care is taken in the isolation and configuration of Control Voltage Transformers. Commonly, the voltages on the primary side of a Control Voltage Transformer are found in the medium to high voltage ranges. For that reason one can expect to see Control Voltage Transformers used in transmission stations and substations, as well as in distribution areas. They will be producing clean and well-regulated low voltage power for meters, instruments, monitors, and a number of other devices.
